Dr William S. Kalema

Dr Kalema is the grandson of Martin Luther Nsibirwa, former Kattikiro of Buganda, after whom Nsibirwa Hall (former Northcote Hall) is named. Dr Kalema is Chairman of African Agricultural Capital Limited, Trustee of Kilimo Trust and Chairman of the Board of the Uganda Gatsby Trust. As a leader of private sector development in Uganda, he was appointed to the (former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s) Commission for Africa which submitted its report in 2005. He serves on the Boards of several East African businesses, including the Development Finance Company of Uganda (DFCU), UAP Insurance Uganda, and Multichoice Uganda. He was previously a Director of East African Breweries. Dr Kalema was educated at Cambridge University and at the California Institute of Technology, where he obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering. Earlier he worked in the Zambian mining industry and held senior positions in R&D and business development with Du Pont in USA. He returned to Uganda in 1991 and has worked as an entrepreneur and a consultant. He is currently Country Manager and Director of BDO East Africa in Uganda.
