One of the objectives of the Makerere University Policy and Regulations against Sexual Harassment is “To sensitize the university community about the evils of sexual harassment, thereby engendering a sense of social responsibility and zero tolerance for such behavior”. Makerere University unveils VC’s Roster of 100 to investigate specifically reported complaints of sexual harassment
The Safer Universities Project will be launched on 29th August 2019 at Royal Suites Bugolobi by Makerere University under the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate with joint efforts on:
- Elimination of SExual Harassment
- Elimination of Violence Aganist Women and Girls
- Promotion of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights
This is aimed at setting up a standing roster of 100 persons from which ad hoc committees will be drawn to investigate specifically reported complaints of sexual harassment. All 100 members shall be persons of integrity, trained and sensitized on sexual harassment, abuse and procedural matters for handling complaints as and when they arise. It will be held on 28th and 29th August 2019 at Royal Suites Bugolobi.

Makerere University Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) has rolled out the Student Peer Trainers programme to train 250 students in handling gender issues as well as equipping them with knowledge and skills aimed at ending gender-based violence.
